Overview & Scope
Per Indiana Code § 8-2.1-22, solicitation and transport of household goods for compensation within Indiana require a valid CPCN from the Indiana DOR Motor Carrier Services. Operating without this certification can trigger civil penalties of up to $1,000 per day
Registration & Documentation Requirements
Movers must complete the following steps:
- Submit Application for Intrastate Operating Authority, with the option for:
- Permanent ($100 filing fee)
- Temporary (180-day, $100)
- Emergency Temporary (30-day, $100) authority
 
- Once Approved, submit within 60 days:
- Proof of Insurance (Form E)
- Tariff detailing all rates and charges
 Upon acceptance, Indiana DOR issues your CPCN and Indiana Operating Authority—required before starting operations
 
- Renew Annually by November 30 via the DOR Motor Carrier Services Portal

- Liability Insurance (Form E) is mandatory; coverage standards align with federal norms for common carriers.
