Overview & Scope
All intrastate household goods movers in Georgia must be certified by the DPS with a Household Goods Carrier Certificate, also known as a Public Convenience Certificate (PCC)
Registration & Operational Requirements
- Interim Certificate issued within 6–8 weeks of application; valid for 12 months before a potential audit or license renewal
- Movers must maintain:
- $350,000 CSL insurance
- Cargo insurance: $25,000/vehicle; $50,000 aggregate
 
- Must adhere to Maximum Rate Tariff No.4 for pricing regulation
- Before the move, movers are required to provide:
- A written estimate
- The state-issued “Moving Guide for Household Goods” pamphlet—shippers must acknowledge receipt in writing
 
Consumer Protections
- Movers must operate solely at approved tariff rates; unlicensed movers provide little consumer protection
- Consumers receive rate transparency through estimates and must be informed of liability limitations and valuation options.
