Overview & Scope

Per Indiana Code § 8-2.1-22, solicitation and transport of household goods for compensation within Indiana require a valid CPCN from the Indiana DOR Motor Carrier Services. Operating without this certification can trigger civil penalties of up to $1,000 per day


Registration & Documentation Requirements

Movers must complete the following steps:

  1. Submit Application for Intrastate Operating Authority, with the option for:
    • Permanent ($100 filing fee)
    • Temporary (180-day, $100)
    • Emergency Temporary (30-day, $100) authority
  2. Once Approved, submit within 60 days:
    • Proof of Insurance (Form E)
    • Tariff detailing all rates and charges
      Upon acceptance, Indiana DOR issues your CPCN and Indiana Operating Authority—required before starting operations
  3. Renew Annually by November 30 via the DOR Motor Carrier Services Portal
