Overview & Scope
Beginning July 1, 2021, Nebraska law requires that any individual or business performing intrastate household goods moving must obtain a Household Goods Mover License from the Nebraska Public Service Commission before operating legally.
Registration & Licensing Requirements
Movers must:
- Submit a completed application form with business details and route specifics.
- Pay a non-refundable $250 license fee to initiate licensing.
- Provide proof of:
- Liability insurance (via Form E or G)
- Cargo insurance (via Form H or J)
- Maintain a principal place of business within Nebraska.
- Renew the license annually for $250.
- Fulfill PSC requirements within 45 days of approval:
- File insurance documents
- Submit rate schedules if rates change
Non-compliance can result in suspension or revocation of the license after notice and hearing.
Insurance & Rate Filings
- Liability and Cargo Insurance coverage is mandatory and must be properly filed with the PSC.
- While the PSC no longer sets maximum rates, any rate changes must be filed and published with the Commission.
